Welcome to St. Winifred's School

St. Winifred’s School has long established itself as a leading private school on the island. We are a private co-educational school serving students from pre-kindergarten (age 3 yrs.) through to the secondary level (age 16 yrs). The school is a registered nonprofit whose principal reports to a Committee of Management. We have an active association made up of parents, former students and teachers, the St. Winifred’s School Association which assists the school in many ways, as well as an active team of volunteer parents.

Celebrating our 100th year in 2021, St. Winifred’s School today has grown and changed in many ways from the small school established by Miss Jane Charlotte Seale in 1921. Today we boast a lovely campus on Pine Road alongside the prestigious properties of the President of Barbados, the Governor of the Central Bank,  and the British High Commission.

Originally established as a school for girls (see Our History), today we are a co-educational institution with students and teachers not only from Barbados and within the Caribbean region, but from countries all over the world.

We recognise that the world continues to change and that our students will be going out into a much more global environment. As such we explore and adapt our pedagogy to change with the needs of our times.  We want our students to pursue their potential and to develop the character traits they need to respect and improve the world they will inherit from us.

Family Fun days help us bring the entire school community together. Spirit Days, held throughout the term, help to build school unity and ensure that the students can build fun memories from their school life.

Our Three Year Old Unit (Prep 1)

Young children learn through interaction with each other and through the exploration of the world around them. Playing and learning together help to build social skills, language skills, fosters self-control, and helps them develop emotionally.

Besides the all-important acquisition of language, we are always so pleased to watch our students grow to become more independent learners, discover how to be good friends and navigate their way through the many social and emotional challenges that are part of the growing up experience.

Secondary school is a big leap. Here students need to be more independent and responsible. They need to be tolerant in their friendships and develop good study habits as the subjects presented contain more challenging content.
